The Problem

Most AI tools feel technical, text-heavy, and overwhelming for non-tech users, creating friction before users even begin interacting.

The Goal

Design an AI experience that feels familiar, beginner-friendly, and accessible for users across different languages, backgrounds, and comfort levels with technology.

The Outcome

Created a visually guided AI platform focused on simplified interactions, category-based discovery, and WhatsApp-inspired conversational familiarity.

My Role

Led the complete product design process including UX strategy, interaction flows, interface design, feature ideation, visual systems, and launch creatives.

Business Context

THE MARKET GAP

While AI adoption continues to grow rapidly, many existing AI platforms are still designed around technical users who understand prompts, workflows, and AI systems. For a large Bharat-first audience, these experiences often feel intimidating, text-heavy, and difficult to navigate.

STRATEGIC GOALS

OJI aimed to simplify AI into a more approachable, everyday utility platform by combining chat, voice, and AI calling experiences into one guided ecosystem designed around familiarity and ease of use.

User & Insights

Cognitive Overload

Most AI interfaces rely heavily on blank chat screens and prompt-based interactions, which can overwhelm users unfamiliar with AI workflows or technical prompting.

The Trust Deficit

Users are far more comfortable interacting with experiences that resemble products they already use daily. Familiar interaction patterns reduce hesitation and improve accessibility.

Information Architecture

The platform was structured around guided discovery instead of open-ended complexity. Rather than expecting users to know what to ask, OJI introduces AI through visual categories, simplified entry points, and utility-focused exploration.

Making AI Feel Familiar

Instead of introducing futuristic or highly technical interactions, the chat and calling experiences were intentionally inspired by WhatsApp interaction patterns to reduce friction and increase immediate usability.

AI agents were designed as visually recognizable categories with clear utility-driven labels, helping users quickly understand purpose without relying on complex prompts.
